South African zoologist Kevin Richardson, known as “The Lion Whisperer,” was recently joined by a team from GoPro to create an episode for the HERO3+ Adventure Series.
Equipped with rugged GoPro cameras, Richardson takes us into a nature reserve near Pretoria, South Africa, home to many species of African wildlife. The video features a first-person perspective as Richardson calls out to Maggie, an African lion who eagerly greets and hugs her beloved human.
Throughout the film, Richardson plays and cuddles with lions and hyenas, while speaking about conservation and offering insight into animal behavior. Close-up views of majestic lions and African plains lit by the golden hour make this video a gorgeous and intimate production.
“I lie down there next to them and I just think, ah, they’re just so beautiful,” says Richardson, a self-taught animal behaviourist. He credits his non-traditional approach for his ability to get close to the lions. From his website:
