California photographer Royce Hutain of Visual Burrito designed a creative Halloween costume for his toddler that quickly went viral. Using LED lights fixed on a dark bodysuit, Hutain has created a costume that appears to turn his daughter into a real-life walking stick figure.
“I came up with the idea originally for snowboarding at night, I thought it looked funny. And then, now that she’s old enough to walk for Halloween, I thought a two-foot stick man is going to look hilarious,” said Hutain on Good Morning America.
The video below has gone viral, and now Hutain is selling his LED creation over at ledbaby.com. From the website:
“We’ve received so many requests to buy the led baby stickman costume, we’ve identified a manufacturer to produce them. ”
This isn’t Hutain’s first attempt at LED suits. Earlier this year, he posted a video of snowboarders in action wearing his homemade LED suits. From Vimeo:
“So I had this bright idea to make stick men light up suits and go snowboarding. I made the stick men as well as the RGB suit out of LED strips. The strips are powered by 10 rechargeable AA batteries. The suits took some time to make but not too long. The hard part was the repairs. Turns out LED strips get brittle in the cold. I’ve never spend more time soldering (and re-soldering) in my life! Every time I’d shoot someone would lose an arm or a leg. I built 3 stick man suits (red, green, blue) and a multi-color RGB suit. The RGB suit held up the best because it didn’t bend as much. The light painting at the end is just that, light painting. Nothing was generated in after effects. I had a flashlight that you could turn different colors. Everything was shot on a Canon 7d.”
